Details of Reddit.com
Reddit, stylized as "reddit" in its logo, is an American website that serves as a social news aggregator, content rating platform, and discussion forum. Registered members contribute content to the site in various formats including links, text posts, and images, which are then voted on by other members. The platform organizes these contributions into themed discussion boards known as "subreddits," covering a wide range of topics such as news, politics, science, entertainment, and hobbies. Popular submissions garnering more up-votes are prominently displayed within their respective subreddits and may even appear on the site's main page. Despite implementing strict rules against harassment, Reddit's administrators invest significant efforts into moderating the platform. As of May 2020, Reddit stands as the 19th most visited website in both the United States and globally, with the majority of its user base originating from the United States, followed by the United Kingdom and Canada. Reddit was founded in 2005 by Steve Huffman and Alexis Ohanian, former roommates at the University of Virginia. Initially acquired by Condé Nast Publications in October 2006, Reddit became an independent subsidiary of Advance Publications, Condé Nast's parent company, in 2011. Over the years, Reddit has attracted notable investors such as Sam Altman, Marc Andreessen, Peter Thiel, Snoop Dogg, and Jared Leto, with funding rounds leading to significant increases in the company's valuation. Notably, a $300 million funding round led by Tencent in February 2019 propelled Reddit's valuation to $3 billion.
